Eintracht Frankfurt have turned down the chance to sign Arsenal defender Krystian Bielik, according to the club’s sporting director.

The centre back was believed to be close to moving on loan to the Bundesliga club but Bruno Hubner told German magazine Kicker that they didn’t believe the 19 year old is ready to play regularly at the highest level of German football:

“We retain a close and intensive contact with Arsenal and have talked again and again about this player. Bielik is a player with a lot of potential, however the Bundesliga would be too early for him.”

Bielik does have some experience of senior football. The Polish Under 19 international made six appearances for Legia Warsaw before his £2m move to the Emirates in January 2015.

After spending two years with the Gunners, and having played two games for the senior side in the EFL Cup against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest, he spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship club Birmingham City.

He made ten appearances in total for the Blues, making eight starts and two substitute appearances before returning to the Gunners this summer.
