Sporting Lisbon want to sell midfielder William Carvalho for €30m (£26.5m), and they are hopeful at least one Premier League club will make an offer for the Portuguese international, according to A Bola.
The Portuguese newspaper says Sporting are seeking to sell one of their best players in order to balance the books after the seven purchases they have made already this summer.
Sporting are hoping one of Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham or Newcastle will make an offer which will be acceptable to them. A Bola reports that another English club, West Bromwich Albion, have made a €20m bid but it was €10m short of the offer the Baggies proposed at the start of the January transfer window, which the Portuguese club turned down at the time.
In addition to Carvalho, Sporting are also seeking to sell his Portuguese international team mate Adrien Silva, as they look to add further signings during the summer.
With Sporting willing sellers, much will depend on whether Arsenal have any need for another holding midfielder. They already have Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin who fulfil that role in the squad.
