Roy Keane insists Manchester United will beat Arsenal this weekend, even with a weakened team.
The Gunners host the Red Devils at the Emirates this Sunday in a must win Premier League clash for both clubs as they chase a top four finish.
Arsenal currently sit in sixth position with 60 points with a game in hand, while United are just above them in fifth spot with 65 points – just one point behind fourth placed Manchester City. However, United could claim a Champions League spot regardless where they finish this season if they win the Europa League.
However, Jose Mourinho has suggested that he may field a weakened side against Arsenal as he focuses his attention on winning the Europa League. United face Celta Vigo tonight in Spain in the first of their two-legged tie, and Mourinho will look to prioritise Europe over the club’s remaining domestic fixtures.
On hearing the possibility that Mourinho will rest a few key players against Arsenal this weekend, Keane believes they will still have enough quality to beat Arsene Wenger’s team:
‘It is clear that his priority is trying to win the Europa League and guarantee Champions League football.
‘I think he is right. With the way the last week has gone, prioritise winning a trophy, definitely.’
‘Even a weak team would probably still beat Arsenal.’
The way things are going at Arsenal, with their performances and results this season, I agree with Keane. To add to this, Wenger has never beaten Mourinho and United have beaten the Gunners with weakened sides in the past.
One thing is for sure, Arsenal MUST win this game or end up outside the top four this season.
