Bjorn Engels has boosted Arsenal’s hopes of signing him this summer after recently admitting his admiration for the Premier League.

The 22-year-old centre-back has enjoyed a productive season at Club Brugge, making 18 appearances for the Belgian club and developing into one of their key players.

However, 6’4’’ defender has told Belgian newspaper HLN (via the Daily Mirror) that he enjoys watching Premier League football, fuelling speculation that he could be looking to move to England in the near future:

“It’s fantastic. The atmosphere, the interviews, analysis.

“I have at home a box and can follow all the channels.”

Engels, who can also play in the defensive midfield role, was linked with a move away from Club Brugge last summer, but the Belgian club managed to extend his existing contract, keeping him until 2020.

Arsenal are reportedly set for a rebuild this summer and Engels is understood to be on their radar.

Arsenal’s defence remains an issue and shaky despite signing Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia last summer. Whether they decide to make a move for Engels at the end of the season remains to be seen.
