Arsene Wenger’s position as Arsenal manager will be put in serious jeopardy should the Gunners lose to Hull City this Saturday, according to Paul Merson.

Arsenal’s title challenge took a huge blow last week after suffering back-to-back defeats to Watford and Chelsea, leaving them 12 points adrift from Antoni Conte’s side.

Wenger has come under severe scrutiny from sections of the Arsenal faithful for the club’s current Premier League position, while others still believe he is the right man for the job. The Arsenal board are with those who still back the Frenchman to deliver, but Merson believes feels his time could come to an end IF Hull City shock the Gunners at the Emirates this weekend.

But the former Gunner believes his old club will get back to winning ways:

‘This is typical Arsenal. They will win 3-0, everything will be great again and Arsene Wenger will be the best manager in the world.

‘The pressure is on, though, as if they lose this game I don’t see how he can keep his job.

‘It would be that toxic that I couldn’t see him staying. Hull are doing very well but Arsenal tend to beat these teams.’

Merson may be going a little overboard by saying a defeat to Hull could end Wenger’s reign as Arsenal manager, but it certainly won’t go down well that’s for sure.

Like many will agree, the only possible way that Wenger will be asked to leave (not fired) is if he the club fail to finish in the top four. A top four finish is still very much in reach, but many fans will not be happy with just a Champions League qualification spot, knowing that the club have blown yet another chance to end their Premier League drought.
