Former Gunner Ray Parlour says Arsenal cannot just rely on Alexis Sanchez to deliver goals.
The Chilean forward is the club’s top scorer this season in the Premier League with 17 goals with Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud joint second behind the former Barcelona man with eight.
While Sanchez has been delivering this season in his new-found centre-forward role for the majority of the season, Parlour believes the three players behind him must start hitting the back of the net on a regular basis to ease the pressure off the Chile international.
Arsene Wenger has tweaked his front three on several occasions this season but, more often than not, the trio have been made up of Mesut Ozil, Alex Iwobi and Walcott. Combined, the trio have scored 16 times, one short of Sanchez’s 17, and Parlour insists those playing in the forward positions must score at least 10 goals a season:
“When you’ve got three behind the front man, you need goals from them.
“You need 10 each from them.
“I like Iwobi but he does make the wrong decision sometimes.”
Iwobi has scored only three Premier League goals, while Ozil has netted just five.
Those around Sanchez do need to get more goals to help not only the Chilean but also Arsenal’s positioning in the Premier League.
