Rangers manager Mark Warburton has reportedly travelled to Spain to talk with Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral about moving to Ibrox in the January transfer window.

The Spaniard is currently on loan at La Liga side Granada but has struggled for game time with just five starts all season, but the Daily Record say Warburton has tried to persuade the player to cut short his spell in Spain and head to Scotland instead.

It is believed Warburton has employed the services of former Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta in a bid to persuade Toral. Arteta is a friend of the player and the current Manchester City coach is said to have recommended the 21 year old to join Rangers, where he himself played between 2002 and 2004.

Toral was named Birmingham City player of the year last season during his loan spell in the Championship but did not convince Arsene Wenger that he was ready to play in the Premier League. As his loan spell at Granada has not gone to plan, the Gunners boss might also be prepared for the midfielder to return to the UK and play under a manager (in Warburton) who he knows from his time on loan at Brentford two years ago.
