Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly monitoring Ross Barkley’s situation at Everton.

As reported by the Daily Telegraph (via Metro) both clubs are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old midfielder’s contract situation, with his current deal at Goodison Park set to expire in the summer of 2018.

However, it’s thought Spurs are also interested in the England international and are preparing to launch a bid when the January transfer window opens.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has not seen eye-to-eye with Barkley this season and remains unsure whether the player will ever be capable of fulfilling his potential, leading to speculation that the Dutchman may be ready to offload him as early as January as reported firstly in mid-December.

Before the new reports claiming Arsenal are keeping tabs on Barkley, I asked (using Twitter) the question whether the Gunners should show an interest in the midfielder if he was put on the market in January, and the results were pretty much one-sided to be honest. A total of 33 votes were cast and a staggering 85% didn’t want the club to express an interest in the Everton man, while 15% said they should.

Barkley has scored two goals and assisted the same amount in 16 Premier League appearances so far this season.
