Exeter City director of football Steve Perryman says it will be up to Ethan Ampadu and his father to decide when they leave St James’ Park.

Kwame Ampadu is an Under-18 coach with Arsenal, and it has led to speculation that the Gunners are firm favourites to sign the youngster when the 16-year-old leaves the League Two outfit.

Speaking to the local newspaper the Exeter Express & Echo, Perryman said:

‘It’s his and his dad’s decision. They’re sensible people and it’s a hell of a decision about where to go next and when to go there. That’s to be decided and I think only they can make that decision – we can’t overrule anything and we wouldn’t want to, but it’s a good situation for us both now, as he’s getting exposure and experience and we’re using him to good effect’

Ampadu is currently still at school and is in the process of doing his GCSEs. Manager Paul Tisdale believes it would be unwise to disrupt his education currently. This would suggest a January move to the Emirates stadium is out of the question, unless the player is loaned back to the club until at least the end of the season.

The defensive midfielder has made 10 appearances this season for the Grecians, after making his first-team debut against Brentford in the first round of the EFL Cup back in early August.
