RMC Sport France reports that Mesut Ozil is ‘putting the pressure’ on the Gunners to sign Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg.
Ozil is currently locked in discussions with Arsenal over a contract extension to his current deal that expires in 2018, but if the French TV channel are to be believed, the 28-year-old is keen on joining up with his German international team-mate at the Emirates stadium.
Arsene Wenger has tracked Draxler since his early days at Schalke. He moved to Wolfsburg for €36million in 2015, and had a very successful first season at the Volkswagen Arena with nine goals and eight assists in 35 matches last campaign.
Things began to turn sour last summer, however, when he declared publicly that he wanted to leave the Bundesliga side. Despite a reportedly sizeable bid from Paris Saint-Germain, Wolfsburg decided to keep one of their key assets; something they have quickly come to regret after the player failed to perform this season with the club sitting 15th in the Bundesliga, just above the automatic relegation places.
