German striker tells Arsenal target to leave club

|

Wolfsburg striker Mario Gomez did not mince his words when asked whether players should leave the German club if they are unhappy.

Arsenal, PSG and Juventus are believed to be targeting Gomez’s team-mate Julian Draxler in the January transfer window and the 23-year-old has been unhappy at the Bundesliga side since declaring he wanted to leave in the summer.

Speaking to Sky Deutschland after playing for Wolfsburg in the 1-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, Gomez said:

‘If you do not want to be here, you should go.’

Then asked specifically about Draxler and his difficult relationship with Wolfsburg fans after being booed during the match against Hertha Berlin a few weeks ago, Gomez was more diplomatic, stating the club will have to see which of the interested clubs will have the money to buy the player:

‘We have to see clearly in the winter who has a buck.’

Draxler returned to the starting lineup against Frankfurt after being omitted from the squad last week for the 5-0 defeat against Bayern Munich, and head coach Valerien Ismael praised the midfielder’s committed display after the match.
