Antonio Conte has not ruled out a sensational move for Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez’s contract saga has taken much of the headlines as of late and when asked if the Chilean will sign a new deal to remain at Arsenal beyond 2018, Arsene Wenger could not guarantee any assurances it would occur. As a result, Sanchez has been linked with a move away from the Emirates, and Chelsea are one of the teams that have been linked with the Chile international.
When quizzed about the prospect of signing the 27-year-old, Conte was coy on the matter.
Speaking ahead of the West Brom game this weekend, the former Juventus and Italy boss said:
‘I don’t think it’s right to talk about players of other teams.
‘We are totally focused on next game against West Brom.
‘Next season is very far away and it’s not right to talk about it. It’s not fair on my players.’
Sanchez still has 18 months left to run on his existing contract and Wenger has stated that even if the striker does not decide to sign an extension he will remain an Arsenal player until then.
It remains to be seen whether Sanchez will prolong his stay at Arsenal beyond 2018, but you get the feeling this contract saga still has some course to run before it’s over.
