Arsenal could sign West Ham’s Dimitri Payet for as little as £15 million if the Hammers are relegated, reports The Times.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the France international in recent weeks after the midfielder hinted he could be on his way from West Ham if they continue to struggle.
Payet is the highest paid player in West Ham’s history, pocketing £125,000-a-week, but it’s understood he has a clause in his current contract which would be activated should Slaven Bilic’s men drop to the Championship. In the event of this happening this season, Payet would be available for just £15 million.
West Ham will be desperate to tie the 29-year-old down to a new deal to remove the clause in his current contract despite agreeing fresh terms back in February.
However, with four-and-a-half years still remaining on his existing deal, Payet may consider options available to him, even if West Ham remain in the Premier League at the end of the season.
