Arsenal to challenge PSG and Valencia for winger

|

Arsenal are interested in signing Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes, according to Sol.

The Portuguese publication say that the Gunners are looking at the 20-year-old as a possible replacement for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Sun linked Oxlade-Chamberlain with a £25million switch to Manchester City at the weekend and Sol report that Guedes is being scouted by the London club in case the England international doesn’t sign a new contract, and the Gunners are forced to sell before his deal expires in 2018.

Paris Saint-Germain and Valencia are also said to have looked at signing Guedes. A big stumbling block to any move will be the midfielder’s asking price. Guedes currently has a huge buyout clause of €60million to ward off potential suitors, and although no club will go near that figure to sign the Portuguese star, Benfica will still try to hold out for a large fee.

Guedes has been at Benfica for 11 years, graduating through the club’s youth system before making his senior debut in 2014. He also has two caps for Portugal after making his first international appearance against Russia in 2015.
