Arsenal star says he will sign new deal soon

Olivier Giroud says he is close to signing a new contract at Arsenal.

The French striker made his first Premier League start of the season on Boxing Day and managed to net the winner against West Brom.

The 30-year-old has 18 months left to run on his existing deal at the Emirates but talks are believed to have taken place over a new contract. It is now understood that the France international is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new two-year extension.

Quoted in The Sun, Giroud said:

‘People are saying I’ve signed a new contract. It is not true…but maybe soon.

‘This season has been difficult as I was injured for a month and a half.

‘The boss explained to me why I hadn’t played too much but it is all about keeping focus. Always keep working hard at training.’

Although Giroud has only made three starts this season, the former Montpellier man has managed to net six goals along the way, some of which have won games and salvaged crucial points

It remains to be seen if Giroud extends his stay at Arsenal, but his latest comments suggest it is certainly on his mind, as well as positive.
