Arsenal defender close to signing new deal

|

Laurent Koscielny looks set to sign a new deal to stay with the Gunners, according to RMC Sport. The French TV station say they have sources that say the 31-year-old will sign a one year contract extension until 2020.

Koscielny has been a stand out performer in Arsenal’s defence over the past few years, and his partnership alongside Shkodran Mustafi this campaign has helped the Gunners keep a solid defensive base.

Mustafi was sidelined with a hamstring injury for last night’s 2-1 defeat to Everton and Koscielny was partnered by Gabriel in the centre of defence as the Gunners missed their opportunity to take top spot in the Premier League table.

The French international’s current deal expires in June 2019, but it seems as though Arsene Wenger and the Gunners hierarchy want to ensure the defensive stalwart continues to be a key part of the squad for at least another four years.
