Morabito claims Dortmund rejected £80M Arsenal offer

|

Arsene Wenger DID attempt to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but the Bundesliga club rejected their £80 million offer, according to super-agent Vincenzo Morabito.

Arsene Wenger was hounded by both the Arsenal faithful and pundits alike to sign a top-class striker over the summer to take the Gunners to the next level and seriously challenge for the Premier League title this season.

And after countless links and transfer rumours to a number of strikers across Europe, including Aubameyang, Wenger eventually ended up signing a relatively unknown forward in Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna for £17 million.

Many believed the pursuit of the Dortmund striker was fabricated by the media to excite Arsenal fans, but it has now been claimed that the Gabon international was a real target for the Gunners last summer

In an interview with IamNaples.it, Morabito revealed that when attempting to make a deal happen between Napoli and Dortmund for Aubameyang’s signature, Arsenal’s interest in the striker was well known:

‘Sometime ago, I called Zorc, Dortmund’s director of football, to talk about Aubameyang, but the ‘no’ was absolutely categorical. I know that this summer, Arsenal offered €90m for Aubameyang, but Borussia didn’t want to hear anything about it.’

£80 million and Dortmund still wouldn’t take it! Says a lot about Arsenal football club in general.
