The Daily Mirror recently claimed that Mesut Ozil is closing in on a £200,000-a-weel deal to stay at Arsenal, despite the paper initially suggesting the German playmaker was in advanced stages to sign a £160,000-a-week deal.

The 28-year-old and his representatives have reportedly held further talks during the international break and Arsenal are confident they can agree fresh terms with the midfielder in the upcoming days.

Ozil is currently pocketing between £130,000-£140,000-a-week, depending on what report you read, and has 18 months left to run on his existing deal at the Emirates.

Ozil appears to be happy with life in London, having bought a new £10 million house in the capital, and is prepared to continue his stay if the right deal is offered.

But is he worthy of £200,000-a-week? In one word – yes.

Ozil is arguably one of the club’s most influential players and is in the form of his life. Yes, at times he doesn’t step up to the mark when needed, but every player suffers from this during the season. The fact is, the former Real Madrid midfielder is viewed as one of our best players and needs to be kept hold of.

The only downside to offering him the amount of money reported is that others players will turn around and want the same when their contracts need renewing.

Arsene Wenger and the club have done an exceptional job balancing the books, but they have paid the consequences as a result by losing their star players over previous seasons.

However, Arsenal should have no problem giving Ozil what he wants, or any other player at the club for that matter.
