Gazidis draws up shortlist of replacements

|

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has had to draw up a shortlist of managerial candidates to replace Arsene Wenger in the event the Frenchman does not sign a new contract to stay at the Emirates, according to the Sun.

Wenger’s contract expires at the end of the season but no discussions have taken place about extending the deal, leading Gazidis to consider other possible managers if the Gunners boss departs the club in the summer.

The Sun has given two names which they believe will be included on the shortlist of candidates. Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe, whose work getting the Cherries promoted to the Premier League and remaining in the top flight, has led to him gaining a number of fans on the Arsenal board.

The other name mooted is a bit more left field. RB Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has had an astonishing start to the Bundesliga season after an unbeaten run that sees the newly promoted German club sitting three points ahead of Bayern Munich at the top of the table. Whether the 49-year-old’s name will still be on the list if Leipzig’s form falters remains to be seen.
