Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has confirmed he would only ever leave Spain if he were to join an English Premier League club.

The French international has ruled out a possible return to France with Paris Saint-Germain due to the weakness of Ligue 1. He also dismissed playing for another team in Spain, with Real Madrid and Barcelona not likely destinations.

Speaking in a TV interview with Telefoot, he said England would be his most likely destination in the future:

‘The PSG project is interesting but Ligue 1 does not excite me. I prefer to stay in La Liga or go to the Premier League. If I go to Ligue 1, it will be later [in my career]. If I had to leave La Liga, I would go to England but I don’t intend to leave at the moment.’

‘I will never go to Real Madrid anyway as there is a pact between the two teams [Real and Atletico). And Barca? The three [forwards] there are untouchable.’

The 25-year-old has been linked to Arsenal in the past, and the player’s comments are a huge boost, especially to English clubs, with rivals Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG seemingly being ruled out as potential transfers, if he ever leaves Atletico Madrid.

So far this season, Griezmann has scored six goals in 12 La Liga matches, and he has netted a further three for Atletico in the Champions League.
