Bayern Munich star David Alaba would prefer a move to Arsenal, according to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News.

The local newspaper’s sources were investigating Manchester United’s interest in the Austrian international but they believe the left back would favour a switch to London over Manchester.

M.E.N report that Alaba is a boyhood Arsenal fan, and would see a move to the Gunners as a possibility with Bayern seemingly more open to the 24 year old’s departure if an acceptable bid comes along. The player is said to be rated at around £34 million.

The full back signed a new five year contact only at the start of the year but the Austrian’s performance since then have taken a dip, especially since the departure of Pep Guardiola to Manchester City.

City could be another potential destination for Alaba to join up with his former boss Guardiola but if the Evening News are to be believed Arsenal look to be the only possible option if he is allowed to leave Bayern.

So far this season, Alaba has made 18 appearances in all competiions, scoring once and providing six assists. As well as full back, Alaba plays in midfield for his country and his ability to play in a number of positions would prove a key assist to manager Arsene Wenger.
