Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger convinced goalkeeper David Ospina to stay at the North London club over the summer by promising him regular outings in the Champions League, The Express claim.
The acquisition of Petr Cech last summer saw the Colombia international relegated to deputy and the former Nice man struggled for regular football in 2016-17 at the Emirates Stadium.
Although Cech has continued this season as Wenger’s first choice in the Premier League, Ospina was handed a surprise opportunity to play as the Gunners travelled to face Paris Saint-Germain in Europe on Tuesday night.
The South American stopper conceded to Edinson Cavani within a minute at the Parc des Princes but put in a man-of-the-match performance to keep the visitors in the game and eventually Alexis Sanchez scored to give the English side a point.
Wenger stated after the game that Ospina was a world-class stopper and would be in contention to start the next Champions League game also.
