Tottenham Hotspur’s new £30 million signing Moussa Sissoko wanted to move to Arsenal, with comments he has made in the past stating his love for the Gunners republished in Metro.

The France international impressed at Euro 2016 and as such there has been a scramble for his services this summer after Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League.

Sissoko has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past, but for one reason or another the powerful midfielder has not ended up at the Emirates Stadium.

Spurs are said to have beaten Everton to the Newcastle star’s signature, but the North London side are being teased in the press and on social media.

Metro have reported Sissoko’s comments from 2014 in an attempt to highlight the new Spurs man’s love for his club’s arch rivals.

“When I was young, Arsenal was my favourite club… my idol was Patrick Vieira,’ he is reported to have said..

“I’ve always loved this club, I still love them.”

Further comments earlier this year showcase that Sissoko’s admiration for the Emirates Stadium side had not dissipated.

“Everyone knows, I have often said when I was young, my heart was Arsenal, because there were a lot of French players there,” he said.

“The beautiful Arsenal. We’ll see. I can’t tell you that I will go to Arsenal. For now, I’m focused on France and the Euros.”

Sissoko’s comments will irk Tottenham fans and provide a bit of humours to their Arsenal equivalents after the deadline day deal was completed.
