Pundit Jamie Redknapp has stated that Arsenal must tie their top players such as Alexis Sanchez down to new contracts if they are to attract world-class stars to the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have bolstered their squad with a number of exciting new stars this summer but none of the additions could be labelled world-class.
The North London club’s priority will now be to extend the deals of Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, with their commitment to the team a massive boost for everyone involved at the Emirates Stadium.
Redknapp has stated that Arsene Wenger’s men have a recent record of losing their top players to other clubs, which they must avoid if the side is to challenge for major silverware.
The former Liverpool midfielder stated that Sanchez committing to Arsenal could well be the catalyst for other top-quality players making the move to join the Premier League title hopefuls.
“He chipped in with two goals, taking his tally to three for the season, and it’s imperative that Arsenal can convince him to sign a new deal before his current contract runs out in 2018,” Redknapp wrote in The Daily Mail.
“It’s not just about how much he brings to the team; tying him down would be a statement of intent and help the club to add more world-class talent.
“They’ll find it very difficult to do so if they start losing their best players again, as occurred when Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Alex Song all left in the space of two seasons.”
