Pundit Gary Lineker has stated that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy would be a regular in Arsenal’s team and is a much-more rounded option than the players available to lead the Gunners line currently.

The England international had a spectacular campaign as the Foxes were crowned unlikely Premier League champions last season, scoring goals at will for Claudio Ranieri’s men.

Arsenal made an approach to land Vardy earlier this summer but the gifted attacker opted to reject the Gunners and sign a new contract at the King Power Stadium.

A debate over whether the sprightly forward was right to stay where he is has been played out in the press, with the North London side having since signed Lucas Perez as an alternative.

Lineker has pulled no punches over Vardy’s decision being a blow for Arsenal, with the pundit stating that the Leicester striker is a cut above the strikers available to Arsene Wenger currently.

“I think he’d walk into Arsenal’s team. Have you seen their centre-forwards?” ESPN quote Lineker as saying.

“They’re fine but they’re not as prolific as Vardy. They are not as quick as Vardy and they don’t give you the options Vardy does. Olivier Giroud is a certain kind of target man. He will get his one goal in three or whatever it is.

“Lucas Perez, who they’ve brought in, I quite like but he’s not going to be as prolific as Vardy. All players believe they will start anyway if they’ve got anything about them. You can tell Vardy is full of confidence.”
