Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has stated that he never considered leaving the Italian club over the course of the summer.

Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for the Argentine forward, who has been scoring for fun in Serie A and is adjudged as one of the most predatory attackers in the Italian game.

The Gunners were in the market for a new striker to complement Arsene Wenger’s options in the final third and ended up buying Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna for a fee in the region of £17 million.

Despite the Spaniard ending up at the Emirates Stadium, the link to Icardi was long-lasting over the summer and there was even speculation that Arsenal were to meet with the South American’s agent.

Icardi has moved to set the record straight and has told the Italian press that despite all the speculation over his future, he never considered leaving the Milanese outfit.

“The club invested heavily in the summer, bringing in quality players and this is an advantage for me,” Icardi told Mediaset.

“I want to win with this shirt. I want to stay here. I am comfortable in the city and I never thought about leaving this team.”
