Arsenal attacker Joel Campbell has stated that he feels he should have played more regularly for the Gunners last season.

The Costa Rica international has spent the majority of his time since joining the North London side out on loan elsewhere, with first-team football at the Emirates Stadium a commodity.

Campbell was called into action for Arsene Wenger’s men on a number of occasions last term but found himself back on the sidelines when other, more prominent attacking players returned to availability and fitness.

The versatile forward is spending this season on loan at Sporting Lisbon, following similar deals with Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiakos and Villarreal in the past.

Campbell has stated that he is looking forward to more regular football in Portugal and that he feels that he was unlucky not to feature more often for Arsenal last season.

“I think I deserved to play more after what I did last year, but now is a new stage,” he told A Bola.

“I feel good, happy, this is a new experience.”

Campbell has always had the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil ahead of him in the pecking order at Arsenal.
