Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has endorsed the North London club’s transfer business, stating that Arsene Wenger’s men have added quality to their group over the summer.

The Gunners moved early to sign Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, while the likes of Rob Holding, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez were added as the window progressed.

The fans have been calling on the club to strengthen the core of their team for some time and it appears that Wenger has addressed this issue with a new central defender, midfielder and attacker.

Pires has stated that Arsenal are in good shape to excel this season and that the new faces will add much-needed qualities to Wenger’s squad.

“He [Wenger] spent a lot of money, not like Man United or Man City. But he chose good players with good quality,” the Frenchman told Goal.

“I think some players like Xhaka or Mustafi can help this team. Because, actually, the team is really good, the quality is unbelievable.”

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League last season but the supporters largely feel that their side missed a glorious opportunity to be crowned champions after a number of the perennial favourites toiled.

The Gunners have started the new season with four points from their first three games.
