A prominent French journalist has revealed that Arsenal have bid £40 million for Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez, going against reports in the widespread media of late that the attacker is set to stay with the Foxes.

After leading the King Power Stadium outfit to an unprecedented Premier League title success in 2015-16, the Algeria international has been heavily linked with a move to a host of big European clubs.

However, reports this week have suggested that Arsenal, who are the club most commonly linked with Mahrez, were yet to make an offer and the star had agreed to stay with Claudio Ranieri’s men for an additional 12 months.

As can be seen above, Gilles Favard is not convinced and has stated that he has evidence of a £40 million bid by the Gunners for the scintillating North African forward.

An attacking trident of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Mahrez would be one of the best trios in European football but it appears that there is a lot of work to do to make the Leicester star a new Gunner before the end of August.
