Arsenal have turned their interest to Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu according to SFR Sport, with the French centre-half a potential option to relieve an injury crisis on North London.
With the likes of Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista set to miss a couple of months of Premier League action, Arsene Wenger is light on options at the heart of his rearguard.
A new defender is expected to be added to the Gunners squad before the transfer window closes at the end of August, with the North London club weighing up its options.
Mathieu could well be available given that his compatriot Samuel Umtiti was signed by the Catalan powerhouses this summer.
The former Valencia defender has plenty of experience and is versatile enough to feature across his side’s back four.
Arsenal are also believed to be interested in Shkodran Mustafi but as yet there has been no confirmation over any new faces at the Emirates Stadium.
