Chelsea have entered the race to sign reported Arsenal target Mauro Icardi and are confident of tying up a deal to bring the Argentine to West London, according to The Daily Star.

The South American hitman has been linked with a switch to the Gunners all summer long but as yet there has been no movement in the Emirates Stadium outfit’s attempts to reinforce their forward line.

Icardi has been a revelation since leaving the Barcelona youth academy, scoring consistently in Italy for firstly Sampdoria and then Inter.

Although his current employers are keen to hold onto their club captain, a bumper pay day could well change their mind.

Chelsea have landed Michy Batshuayi this summer but with doubts over Diego Costa’s future at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are thought to want another number nine.

Antonio Conte knows Icardi well from his time managing in Italy and as such if Arsenal want to ensnare the striker they need to move quickly.
