Arsenal are ready to make an attempt to sign former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen, according to Eat Sleep Sport.

The Gunners are in the market for a new centre forward to provide competition to Olivier Giroud at the Emirates Stadium.

Attempts to sign the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Mauro Icardi are yet to materialise and the Mexico international is being rumoured as a possible alternative.

Hernandez was a popular figure at Old Trafford but fell out of favour following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and was then sold by Louis van Gaal.

The diminutive poacher has gone on to score plenty of goals in the Bundesliga and remind his detractors of exactly how good he is.

Leverkusen will surely be keen to hold onto their number nine, but a big-money offer from Arsenal could well be too good to refuse this summer.

Hernandez would bring a predatory edge to the Gunners that has been missing for a number of seasons.
