Arsenal have had a £15 million offer for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi rejected by the Spanish side, who value the German at a whopping £42 million according to The Sun.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Germany international in recent weeks following an injury to defensive stalwart Per Mertesacker that will keep him out of action for a number of months.
Mustafi has excellent calibre at both club and international level, with the former Sampdoria defender winning the World Cup with Germany in Brazil two years ago.
However, it is believed that there is a massive £27 million difference between Arsenal and Valencia’s valuation of the star, making a deal at current conditions impossible.
The North London side have money to spend and need a new central defender but it remains to be seen just how much more Arsene Wenger would be willing to splurge to bring Mustafi to the Emirates Stadium.
