Arsenal have seen an offer of £16 million rejected by West Brom for defender Jonny Evans, according to The Sun.

The Gunners are in the midst of a defensive crisis following pre-season injuries to Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker, with a new centre-half a priority for the North London club.

A host of potential targets have been coined in the press, but former Manchester United defender Evans has been a name that has been consistently mentioned in the last fortnight.

The Northern Ireland international has plenty of experience and is versatile enough to play anywhere across his side’s back four and has been used by the Baggies in central midfield.

Arsene Wenger is said to be an admirer of Evans and could turn to him as a solution to the North London club’s issues at the back.

However, an initial bid of £16 million is believed to have been rejected, with Tony Pulis desperate to hold onto the defender.
