Arsenal are pushing forward with a move for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi and want to land the Argentine hotshot this summer, Corriere dello Sport claim.

The Gunners have again been linked with a host of new number nines this summer, with doubts remaining whether current incumbent Olivier Giroud can score enough goals to fire the club to major silverware.

Icardi has been a sensation since leaving Barcelona’s youth system to move to Italy, scoring plenty of goals for firstly Sampdoria and now Inter.

The latest report suggests that Arsene Wenger is willing to splurge between £38-£42 million on the South American, which would force the Serie A side to sell.

Icardi’s current wages are £61,000 per week, with the Gunners set to up this to £96,000 per week also.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the Inter captain, while his current employers are also keen to keep him in Milan.
