alex iwobiArsenal youngster Alex Iwobi is a loan target for Reading and Birmingham, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 19-year-old Nigerian forward has caught the eye of both Reading and Birmingham, with the Championship sides supposedly preparing to make a move for him before the emergency loan window shuts on Wednesday.

Sheffield United have also shown an interest in acquiring Iwobi on a short-term deal, but a move to the Championship rather than the League One poses a better proposition for the youngster.

Arsene Wenger did previously state at the start of the season that he intended to keep Iwobi at Arsenal, but with the Nigeria international only making two brief sub appearances for the Gunners thus far, the Frenchman may decide to ship him out on a temporary basis in order to gain regular first-team experience.

Arsenal are however suffering an injury crisis, with up to seven players sidelined, and some may say that Wenger could do with Iwobi staying put for the time being.

I believe a loan move away for Iwobi is imminent when the January transfer window opens, but with our squad depleted at the moment, I think it would be wise for the youngster to remain at the Emirates until we get some players back fit and available.

If he isn’t going to play then loan him out.. see if they want to loan mertisacker while we at it.. he aint good enough to play for Stevenage borough let alone the mighty Arsenal! Why we continue to play this massive waste of space only Arsene knows. We have Gabriel and Chambers both of which cannot do any worse! While we on subject of a void on left wing.. why aint wenger put Cazorla there and put Flamini in middle with Couqelin? Surely that makes more sense than a left back (gibbs) or a player who looks out of his depth (campbell) . Arteta should never play for Arsenal again and join mertisacker at stevenage. Get a grip Arsene the long noses are only 3 points behind us!
