Nolito Arsenal are reportedly ready to activate the £12.6 million release clause of Celta Vigo forward Nolito when the January transfer window opens.

The Gunners have previously been linked with a move for the 29-year-old and, according to Spanish publication AS, as reported by the Daily Mirror, they are in pole position to land him this January.

Barcelona are also reportedly keen on Nolito, but Celta Vigo would rather sell to a team abroad than another La Liga side.

Nolito has been in impressive form so far this season for Celta Vigo, netting seven goals in 12 La Liga starts, and has also found himself in the Spain line-up as of late.

It’s uncertain whether or not Arsene Wenger will dip into the market this January – even though there’s an apparent lack of options upfront – but should the Frenchman decide to do so, would a £12.6 million move for Nolito be an astute one?

Having seen him on a number of occasions this season already, I believe it’s a deal Arsenal have to seal.

The Spain international has excellent dribbling skill, strength and is not afraid to take on defenders. In addition, his versatility would be welcomed as he can play either as a centre-forward or on the left flank – a position where we seem to have trouble filling.

Wenger doesn’t like to do business in January and probably won’t do so knowing he has the likes of Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming back before the window opens. But £12.6 million is not a lot of money for a top player who I believe would fit very well into the Arsenal system and conversely offer more striking options to Wenger during the busy end of the season.
