Bafetimbi GomisArsenal need to sign a striker, right? That’s what everyone is expecting before the summer window closes tomorrow evening (6pm), and things could get chaotic as time draws nearer to deadline day.

An audacious move for Karim Benzema has been ruled out by the player himself and now we are being linked with two other massive moves for either PSG’s Edinson Cavani or Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain. Arsenal will easily have to shell out £50 million+ for either, but should the club be looking closer to home?

While Cavani or Higuain would certainly be welcomed, Arsene Wenger will not panic, nor will he splash the cash for the sake of it – only for the right player will he do so, and Benzema may well have been that player in many of the fans’ eyes.

But why aren’t the Gunners considering a swoop for Bafetimbi Gomis instead?

The 30-year-old has hit the ground running at Swansea since joining them from Lyon last summer, notching up 10 goals in 36 total appearances, and has already hit four in four so far this term.

The French forward has certainly stepped up his game since and leading the line impressively for Garry Monk’s side since the departure of Wilfried Bony to Manchester City this summer.

Known for his strength, intelligent finishing and aerial ability, Gomis is believed to have a £7 million buyout clause in his current contract at the Liberty Stadium and would certainly be a coup for Arsenal, or any other club keen on his services for that matter.

Gomis already has Premier League experience under his belt and has already shown he can mix it with the big boys of the league

£7 million for a goal-scoring France international makes perfect sense and remains a realistic striking target for Arsenal to consider before the window shuts tomorrow afternoon.

Do me a favour mate. You want to go backwards. C’mon.

  • Rob says:

It is wishful thinking to even have Gomis in your mind as an Arsenal player so late in the transfer window. He has worked hard to be the main striker at Swansea after the departure of Bony? Why does Arsene wait until the last minute? Last minute deals are done by clubs that are getting rid of their chuff or trying to make as much money from desperate clubs.

do you really think Le prof would ever think of signing a 30 yr old ?

  • Rob says:

I don’t think Bafi is a good player for Arsene. He is abrupt in control and passing is erratic. He uses power and not skill. He relies on Ayew who is very skilled.

  • Bliss says:

I think we should go for Charlie Austin he’ll do a good job until January.

  • adu ishmael says:

no panic buying here gomis not needed here cavani will be okay no matter how mach he cost

  • Rob says:

Yes Bliss! He can score goals for us until January. We need someone who is powerful and prolific in front of goal. Charlie Austin fits that class.

  • Kelvin says:

buying cavani will b a wasted of money. Austin will b a good signing

  • Elias says:

Balotelli (with clause in his contract) would have been a perfect fit for the gunners but he’s gone back to Italy. I suggest Riyadh Mahrez.

  • chuks says:

Charlie Austine will be a fair purchase, giving the fact that there are no more strikers in the transfer market.
