Arsenal have tabled a £28.5 million bid for William Carvalho, according to today’s Sun.
The Gunners have been tracking the Sporting Lisbon midfielder for some time and have already seen a £20 million offer rejected by the Portuguese club.
However, Arsene Wenger will have permission to speak to the 23-year-old if the club were to stump up a further £8.5 million in add-ons to add to their latest offer, meeting Carvalho’s £37 million release clause.
But Sporting need the cash, and could well accept Arsenal’s latest offer for their prized asset.
Last week, Carvalho said:
‘I would like to play in England, it’s a league I’ve longed admired.
‘It’s one of the most important leagues and I think my physical strength makes me a good fit.’
The Gunners have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks, as Wenger looks to bolster and strengthen his side ahead of next season’s campaign.
Carvalho, who is currently in Czech Republic with the Portugal Under-21 squad, is highly-rated and continues to impress for club and country.
But if Sporting turn down Arsenal’s latest offer of £28.5 million, should the Gunners stump up (even in add-ons) £37 million for the Portuguese youngster?
Although he would suit the Premier League’s combative nature and would certainly add strength to our midfield, I wouldn’t like to see Arsenal splash out that amount of money to land him as I believe there are better options out there for a much smaller sum.
I knowii d sporting lisbon agree 30m euro for dis player and why is now turn to 40m euro and pls arsenal board think abt it.
if they don’t accept that get out leave him there.
if they din,t accept this offer then we should leave him and go for other options
Dz offer is ok by me if d do nt accept the offer dn leave dm an go 4 o’da player dt is 4 me.
What about Jackson Martinez? What is Wenger’s position on this guy? I think he’ll better suit Arsenal than Carvalho.
