Arturo VidalArsenal have reportedly agreed a £21 million fee with Juventus for Arturo Vidal.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for a few weeks now and Chilean newspaper La Stampa claim Arsenal have finally landed him for £21 million on a five-year deal.

It’s thought the move will be announced after the completion of the Copa America next week.

But while the Arsenal faithful will be excited and elated to hear that Vidal is possibly on his way to the Emirates, is he what the Gunners really need this summer?

Arsenal desperately need a holding midfielder to come in and compete with Francis Coquelin. Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are the only other two that operate in this position, but both are getting on and not viewed as regulars.

Now as much as I would love to see Vidal come in, the Chilean is not really what you would classify as an anchorman – he is more of a box-to-box midfielder – and I don’t think signing him solves our problem…unless of course someone makes way for his arrival.

With that said, if reports are to be believed, bagging Vidal for £21 million from Juventus is a great piece of business and although he isn’t the holding midfielder we need, the Chilean would certainly strengthen and bolster our midfield options ahead of next season’s campaign.

Great piece of business done, but is Vidal what Arsenal really need?

The days of a rigid formation with an out n out defensive mid-fielder is over. Defense and movement all over the pitch. Wakey wakey. Enjoy the new.

We have millions of opinions from unofficial Arsenal coaches world wide but only one official coach who works with the players daily and understand team dynamics more that us fans. Let’s trust AW to do what is best for the team and I think he has enough pressure from himself as he is overdue for league winning team. Let’s us play our part and be fans and support the team and hope that injuries will be of a lesser factor but the only thing that AW should sort out is the squad depth taking into account fatigue and possible injuries.

Vidal is the new incarnation of Patrick Viera. Of course we need him. With players like him we can actually win the league and not just pretend our team is good enough. Vidal is a perfect complement to Coquelin. When we won the league we had first Viera/Petit, and then Viera/Gilberto. Two to comlement each other.
Secondly with all matches we could have over 65 games this season. Do you expect Coquelin to play them all? Do you expect anyone to play them all? Vidal is World Class. Don’t you want to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League?
