Why Arsenal should accept Bilbao’s £5.6M offer

|

Nacho MonrealAthletic Bilbao are ready to launch a £5.6 million offer for Nacho Monreal, according to reports in Spain.

The Spanish left-back has been heavily linked with a move to the Basque club this month and, according to Fichajes.net, the La Liga club are now ready to test the Gunners’ resolve.

Monreal, who joined Arsenal from Malaga in 2013 for £8.3 million, became Arsene Wenger’s first-choice left-back last season, making 39 appearance in all competitions, and still has two years left on his existing deal at the Emirates.

However, it is thought Wenger has no intention to offer Monreal an extension and could be willing to listen to offers for the Spaniard this summer.

Despite his appearances for the club last season, many Arsenal fans, including myself to be honest, are not comfortable with Monreal at left-back. He is a decent enough player, but he can be suspect at times which leads to chances or goals being conceded. I don’t believe he is a player that you can count on, a player who is reliable and one that fans will be comfortable with.

Even if Wenger rejects offers for Monreal this summer and remains at the Emirates, I believe we need to sign a left-back before the window closes. Despite his ability, Kieran Gibbs has become injury-prone and while Monreal is decent, the Spaniard is not reliable enough.

Accept Bilbao’s £5.6 million offer and put it towards another left-back capable of cementing a place in the side – one that fans will be happy and comfortable with.

We should accept 5.6m for him?

    What a strange article.

I don’t agree. We need to keep the existing squad and add quality reinforcements. Not sell and buy and then ruin team cohesion.

Author clearly is an expert in FM’15. Why would you let kids write dumb pieces? Nacho was one of the best players last season. He will be the first choice LB next season unless Gibbs dramatically improves his form. Dear ‘The Goon’ please stick to simulation games. Writing isn’t what you’d want to do.

There’s a reason why the likes of Arseblog are popular with fans-they don’t allow kids to publish such farcical pieces.

Arsenal should keep monreal bcus he still only left back they have . Gibs have become injury pro now. I advice arsenal to sell gibs and buy another left bck to support monreal.

He’s nuts not to offer him an extension, he’s better than Gibbs as He can use his right foot very well, if Gibbs steps inside to his right to tackle he’s iffy….. He also has common sense as when to go forward, not always a good idea to push both full backs up at once, Bellerin has pace to burn on the right, but push both up at the same time you easy get caught on the break….. how ever good the defensive unit….:)

  • Arsenal Melayu says:

Goals have been scored through the middle too like the one against Chelsea by Diego Costa after a beautiful long pass by Fabregas. So, do we sell the Koscielny too..?
