Arsenal are eyeing up a move for Mexican centre-back Hector Moreno as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his defence.
Wenger reportedly sent scout Brian McDermott to watch and run the rule over the 26-year-old, who was in action for Espanyol as they took on Valencia last night in the Copa del Rey.
The Mexico international has been a target for Tottenham, Swansea, Everton and Hull in recent seasons, and it is now thought that Wenger is keen on Moreno as the Frenchman looks to add depth to his defence.
Moreno featured for Mexico in the World Cup last summer where he impressed, but the centre-back has only managed six first-team appearances so far for Espanyol this season (five of which have come in the Spanish cup and the other coming off the bench in the La Liga) having recovered from a broken leg.
Wenger appears he may have to dip into the market this month as Mathieu Debuchy faces three months out after dislocating his shoulder against Stoke over the weekend.
Moreno’s contract at Espanyol expires at the end of next season, which could see the Spanish side cash in if Arsenal table a healthy offer for the £6 million-rated Mexican.
If he is sitting on the bench what are scouts going to watch? Keep making up shit and call it journalism.
He’s started four times in the last seven games for Espanyol, so what you on about?
