Arsene Wenger has reportedly spoken to Karim Benzema over a possible move to Arsenal when the January transfer window opens – haven’t we heard this before?
Benzema’s future appears to in doubt despite being a regular for Real Madrid since his arrival from Lyon five years go.
But reports in Spain, according to the Metro, suggest that Real have finally decided to put him up for sale and Wenger has called up his fellow countryman to discuss a move to Arsenal.
Wenger has been a keen admirer of the French forward since his Lyon days and it is claimed that he is willing to offer Benzema huge wages in order to make him apart of his squad.
With Olivier Giroud out until the New Year, Arsenal have been linked with big name strikers such as Edinson Cavani, but Benzema would be the cheaper option and easier transfer to get across the line for Wenger.
We have heard and read a dozen of reports over the past that Arsenal were going to bring in Benzema and nothing happened, and this looks to be the case once again.
I just don’t see why Real would get rid of one of their most consistent and prolific strikers this January – unless of course they have something up their sleeves.
I’m a big fan of Benzema but this move won’t materialize. Wenger won’t bring in another forward midway through the season. Besides, he still has Lukas Podolski and Danny Welbeck to call on.
