Carlos VelaA few days ago it was reported that Arsenal are considering a move for former Gunner Carlos Vela this summer.

The Mexican striker hinted at a return by making a statement about the potential move back to the Emirates by saying:

‘If I have to return, I will do things in a different way.’

He added:

‘We will try and reach an agreement in which we all win – Real, Arsenal and me. We must see what can be done.

‘We will decide what will be my future, it is all about finding the best way to be happy.’

Vela signed for Arsenal in 2005, but it wasn’t until the 2008/09 season that the forward got his break in the first-team. However, he was unable to cement a starting berth in Arsene Wenger’s side and was loaned out to West Brom in the 2010/11 campaign before eventually leaving for Real Sociedad a year later for a fee of around £4 million.

Vela has since made 120 appearances in all competitions in his three year stay at the La Liga outfit so far, scoring 45 goals and accumulating 28 assists along the way. This season alone, the 25-year-old, who has been predominately deployed on the right wing by Jagoba Arrasate, helped the club acquire a top four finish (finishing fourth in La Liga) by contributing 16 goals and 12 assists.

The Mexican’s stats are impressive and considering Arsenal could do with another forward coming in, Arsene Wenger may well activate the buy-back clause in Vela’s contract which is believed to be worth around £3 million.

But while many Arsenal fans would like to see him return to the Emirates, would Vela actually manage to get into the first-team on a regular basis or will he find himself warming the bench and making cameo appearances like he used?

Personally, I don’t think he would start regularly for us as we have a number of options on the wing. As for the forward position, I don’t think he is the man who can fire us to the Premier League title next season. We need a more accomplished striker to come in for this to happen.

It would be great to see him return as I do admire his ability, but if he’s not going to start or get the opportunity to shine for us then what’s the point?

If Vela was to come back would he start for Arsenal? If so, where would he be deployed?

Electrical shock therapy could help in your case

He couldn’t make it. Why bring him back and recycle waste? Wenger needs fresh ideas and not fester over old ones. By all means bring back success stories like Fabregas, but let’s not waste time with Vela.

He has clearly made great strides in the quality of his game. We where chronically short of pace while Theo was injured, he would bring pace, creativity and finishing; and his presence would allow us to loan out Campbell getting him some Premier League experience. Even if it doesn’t work out we would still be able to sell him on for three or four times the cost of bringing him back, it’s a no-brainer.

Technically we still own the player until sociedad make their final 2 payments under the terms of the deal. I say bring him back. He is not going to the world cup and is not injured unlike giroud podolski cazorla chamberlain and walcott who could then all take some rest at the beginning of the season. If after those first 5 games (community shield, 2 epl and 2 Cl) he is not proving himself then we could still sell him for around £15m or loan him back to sociedad if they still want him. It really is a no brainer we will be quids in. It is time for wenger and the club to get ruthless.

we don’t need to doubt his capability, we all knw that the guy has arrived, his game has matured. we need competition within the players so I will love to see him back. Beside he is a faithful player, Arsenal is on his heart he want to come back.
