Asmir BegovicArsenal are preparing to open talks with Stoke City over a summer move to bring experienced goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger appears keen to sign a shot-stopper before the new season begins, with Lukasz Fabianski and loanee Emiliano Viviano both set to leave the club, leaving Wojciech Szczesny as the only senior goalkeeper at Wenger’s disposal.

Wenger has said in the past that he wants to acquire a genuine rival for Szczesny, and the Frenchman has set his sights on Begovic to provide this, according to Saturday’s Metro.

And it is believed that Arsenal representatives are planning to speak to Stoke in the upcoming days to discuss a fee for the Portsmouth man, with the north London club hopefully of agreeing a fee of around £8 million.

The 26-year-old still has two-years remaining on his existing contract at the Britannia Stadium and although Stoke are in no rush to sell, Begovic would almost certainly relish the opportunity of playing Champions League football next season.

The 6’6’’ Bosnian is one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League and not many Arsenal fans wouldn’t like the idea of seeing him at the Emirates this summer.
