Did Wenger make a huge mistake by not spending in January?

Arsene WengerSince the January transfer window shut 10 days ago, Arsenal have picked up three points from a possible six, beating Crystal Palace at home 2-0 and losing miserably to Liverpool at Anfield 5-1.

Arsenal sit in second place in the Premier League table with 55 points, one point in front of City and one behind leaders Chelsea, so its not all bad with 13 games left to play.

However, having witnessed the demolition which transpired on Saturday afternoon, has Arsene Wenger made a huge error in not adding to his squad in the winter window?

We were reportedly linked with a number of stars, most notably Julian Draxler, but ended up signing a crocked 31-year-old Swedish midfielder by the name of Kim Kallstrom on loan from Spartak Moscow – a player who will more than likely not make a single appearance for us. So if you think about it, we basically have the same squad as we did from the start of the season, with a few players (Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey) out injured.

Well having watched the game on Saturday, I think Wenger should have at least signed another striker. Olivier Giroud is not on form but has no one challenging for his place in the side and as a result will, if he is able to remain fit, continue to start for us from now until the end of the season.

I also believe Wenger should have tabled the money Schalke were reportedly asking for for Draxler. Although young, the German playmaker would have revitalised our midfield and given the side that lift. In addition, the 20-year-old would have offered us a different dimension and could fill in for those who are either jaded, injured or not on form – someone like Mesut Ozil for instance or Aaron Ramsey, who is out for a few weeks. Ozil looks knackered and although Wenger wants to rest him, the Frenchman can’t afford to, especially with this hectic period approaching – that and he has no one to replace the German maestro with.

Our team looks like they are beginning to run out of steam, and although we are still in contention despite our latest result, we should have signed at least one or two players to strengthen out title bid.

I hope Wenger’s decision not to bring in anyone during the January window doesn’t come back to haunt him and us. If we do fall short then ultimately Wenger will have to take the majority of the blame – at the end of the day, he’s the manager and it is his job to motivate the players and get the points on the board, as well as add to the squad when he is able to.

We’ve certainly made it harder for ourselves to win the title by not recruiting any new faces, but its not mission impossible.

I tink wenger comited error by nt signing any player during january transfer window. D Liverpol match exposed arsenal team and d technical ability of d manager. Wenger nids to leave pls for a nw manager wt fresh ideas to come in. A team performance depends on d manager.

how can you justify your statment?we judge on a season not a game where everythink that could go wrong did!we must get behind the players more than the manager he has his own problems ,he should have bought in jan nowing the tougfh fixtures we have in feb-march we are players short in every department, this should have been addresed but hasnt ,but as for liverpool game we dont need any knee trembling decisions, you must have been in the handful that was calling for wenger out after the villa game many months ago,and the call him a masier since ,we have one flaw we should buy and strengthen the squad not the team as its the squad that carry you through the hard times and we are thin,it took suspensions and injurys to show our achillies heal we are short of players.

I am pleased Wenger signed Ozil but Arsenal still need a top striker without that we will continue stumbling. Giroud should come as a sub. Wenger made a huge mistake not sign a striker.

Wenger does not need to leave! Period! What so we can have new david moyes to screw it up and man ure can’t say becos of players they have they did better with fergie though didn’t they!! Yes wenger made big mistake not signing no one he should stay a few more years henry wants to be manager in that period wengers here maybe henry can get coaching experience or maybe not just an idea but I can’t see no one else other than henry after wenger maybe bergkamp! Anyway transfers we could have signed pato not proven in england but worth a shot, we could have signed a few strikers that got snapped up by other clubs same old story! Maybe not cavani or falcao(injured anyway) or costa as world cup and wouldn’t leave current squads but wenger can’t use that as an excuse not to sign a striker!!! FACT bendtner has scored some important goals this season but he is not our number 1 striker! He should be sold replaced by pato, if wenger waiting for summer target then that man would replace park surely then we would have 3 decent strikers in giroud, summer star and pato if you don’t agree then what’s your idea of our club?

Of course wenger should have made signings during the transfer window.
    Draxler would have been great.
    so would have a DM.
    As for ozil looking tired,
well, he had a mini winter break and he still looked the the same when he came back.
The true is, he doesn’t look happy,
theres no motivation from him at all.
    Wenger needs to evolve,
I personally don’t want him out,
but he has to change his ways.
I fear that our wheels have become unstable and if we don’t respond on Wednesday our dreams could be all over by the end of February.

By the way I’m not in lve with pato or nothing it was just to show that there was strikers available he was first name I thought of!

  • Admit it Rob.... says:

You have got a topless poster of Pato on your bedroom wall & a packet of tissues on your bedside table.

  • bad deal,kenya says:

Even if we win the premier or some other trophies i feel its time for wenger to go.
we need a change and get rid off the stubborness coz we can have some one who is back treading on almost all issues related to finance.
He is more suited for company stewardship but not an ambitious football club, and we are gratefull for all the positives he has done for arsenal but its time for change coz he has nothing more new to offer.
Well its painfull but thats ……
