FIVE striking options Wenger MUST consider this January

|

Jackson Martinez

The 27-year-old Porto goal-machine looks a realistic target for Wenger.

Martinez recently expressed his admiration for the club and ‘wouldn’t hesitate’ to accept an offer to play for Arsenal should it come along.

He’s superb in the air, possesses great strength and pace as well as being a natural and potent finisher.

The Colombian has netted 49 goals in 64 appearances in all competitions for Porto thus far and could be acquired if a £30 million offer was tabled.

The only con I would say about going for Martinez is that he’s only proven in Portugal, which isn’t exactly the most competitive league in the world. However, Radamel Falcao was once playing his football for Porto and look what he’s done in his career.

Dimitar Berbatov

A lazy striker, but for £2 million is there any real risk to be had here?

The 32-year-old only has five months left to run on his existing deal at Fulham and although he isn’t exactly the most hardworking striker, the Bulgarian has bagged goals wherever he’s been and possesses great technique and awareness to boot.

He may not be the fans’ choice, but Berbatov looks the most realistic and attainable target on this list.

Diego Costa

Along with Martinez, Costa is the man the Arsenal faithful want to see arrive at the Emirates this month.

The 25-year-old is certainly on top his game right now, netting an impressive 23 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions thus far, which include four in three Champions League matches.

A whole host of clubs appear interested in the strong Brazilian forward and it is believed he has a £32 million release clause in his existing contract.

Wenger recently ruled out a move for Costa, believing the striker would cost £145 million to get him at the Emirates.

However, after seeing Mesut Ozil arrive at Arsenal from Real Madrid over the summer, anything is possible and shouldn’t be ruled out, even if Wenger says so.
