Dortmund have warned Manchester United that they will have to fork out up to £40 million if they want to sign Marco Reus, according to the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old has also been on Arsene Wenger’s radar in the past and with the January transfer window set to open in six days time and knowing how much he would have to pay in order to land the German playmaker, should the Frenchman rekindle his interest in the Dortmund player?
Reus did have a £29.4 million buy-out clause in his contract at Dortmund, but it is believed the situation has now changed since Bayern Munich triggered a similar clause to nab Mario Gotze last summer.
It is understood that funds will be made available for Wenger to spend, and while Arsenal fans and pundits alike would like to see the Frenchman sign another striker to aide Olivier Giroud upfront, the prospect of seeing Reus at the Emirates would almost certainly be welcome.
I know we already have a few options on the wing, but Reus’ versatility to play along the midfield would certainly be valuable to the side.
The question now is – should Wenger consider forking out another £40 million-plus to bring in one of Europe’s most dynamic playmakers in January?
I would definitely love to see it happen but I honestly can’t see it come to pass purely because we already have a sufficient amount of players who can take up the wide roles.
However, adding a player of Reus’ quality would send out a message to our title rivals suggesting that we mean business this season, and they say you can never have too many players in a squad pursuing silverware.
But, in my opinion, Wenger wouldn’t part with another £40 million-plus, not in the same season anyway.
Perhaps at the end of the season we will see Reus reappear on our radar as Mesut Ozil did reveal in an interview – when he signed for Arsenal over the summer – that Wenger convinced him to join the Gunners for reasons only he and the Frenchman know. Perhaps it has something to do with some of his German compatriots joining the club in the near future.
I just dislike some of your stories. What Arsenal needs right away is a striker. He is good but let’s go slow.
we need more potential players. wenger should go for him
Show everyone what we are about and shut up the so called pundits like BBC, Arsenal mean business and are title contenders.
Wenger should conceder a striker deal first
What we exactly need at this moment is striker wenger should sign him it can play there
