Arsenal target Diego Costa is not interested in a move away from the Vicente Calderon this January, according to Atletico Madrid director of football Jose Luis Caminero.
The Brazilian striker has been in scintillating form for Atletico this season, scoring 19 goals in 17 La Liga appearances so far, and has been linked with a move to Arsenal when the transfer window opens.
However, Caminero insists Costa, who is tied down to Ateltico until 2018, will remain at the Madrid-based club for the foreseeable future.
He told Spanish newspaper Marca:
‘Right now Costa does not think of leaving, he is contracted to Atletico.
‘He has renewed with us which is important. He has shown that he wants to continue at this club.’
Despite signing a renewal to his current deal, it is believed Costa has a £32 million release clause within his contract, which means any club who offers the exact amount will have permission to speak to the player.
In my opinion, I don’t see Costa leaving Atletico this January. He is having an unbelievable season thus far and the club are currently in contention for the Spanish title with goal difference separating them from first place Barcelona.
Should Atletico manage to win the La Liga title this season then perhaps Costa will relish another challenge elsewhere.
Still, I think its worth Arsene Wenger and Arsenal tabling a £32 million offer for the Brazilian’s services and see what occurs. You never know what might happen.
