Why he would be the perfect signing for Arsenal

Iker CasillasAs the summer transfer window deadline day approaches, many football fans remain anxious at the prospect of potential transfers. Undoubtedly, non more than the Gooners, with anxiety turning into frustration after being linked with one or two big stars for almost every position on the field this summer with none coming to fruition.

Another high-profile and much needed player we’ve been linked with is Spain’s number one shot-stopper Iker Casillas.

The Spaniard fell out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and after being left out of the La Liga club’s opener against Real Betis questions were once again raised as to whether or not Casillas will be at the Bernabeu for much longer, according to Carlo Ancelotti.

So if Real decide to sell the 32-year-old, what sort of impact would he have on our current squad and would he be the perfect addition this summer?

His reputation precedes him. The man is a world class goalie and an accomplished leader. He’s proved himself on the biggest stages time and time again, so yes! He would be the perfect addition to the squad in my opinion.

If we ever needed a keeper to make the likes of Wojciech Szczensy and Lukasz Fabianski put up an even greater fight for the number one jersey, Casillas would without a doubt bring that kind of competition.

He may have a little bit of a rough patch trying to settle into a new nation, league, team and style of play, but as a seasoned professional I doubt it would take long to find his feet.

If at all he does get transfer listed he should be a major priority for Arsene Wenger to look at.

Do you REALLY believe or even think that a goalkeeper of his standing will have a wish to work with a bumbling and ineffective management team like Wenger, Gazides & Co.????
Casillas can pick and choose where he wishes to go, if indeed, he is wanting/willing to leave.

You seem to forget what wenger has done for us through the years, with the stadium absorbing the resources which is now paid for and we are now looking more lucrative and mobey will now be spent. We dont need people like you trying to demorolise confidence. Just do one if you feel like that!!

What has Wenger really achieved except finishing in the top 4 and getting knocked out when the game heats up? I’d rather we don’t qualify at all than being regarded as the whipping boys. No wonder marquee signings are hard to convince to come to us. He’s got the money now lets see what he can achieve this season. Anything less than a cup is an absolute failure and Wenger has to face the consequences in absolute terms!

do we really want to pay so much on an ageing keeper,i would rather us go for tim krul or vorm and even reina!

He’s only 32 and for a goalie he’s right at the peak of his powers as they can play on well into their late 30’s. just ask Schwazter, Lehmman, Zoff etc etc.

I agree wholeheartedly that Casillas would be the perfect choice for GK in this transfer window for all the reasons cited above. His maturity and strong sense of presence is exactly what has been missing in goal for a long period at the club.
He would certainly get more match time so if Arsene is able to pull this one off, I for one will be a very happy Gooner indeed :))
He would also provide Szczensy and Fabianski with world class mentoring which could only strengthen the overall squad.
I do have my doubts that he will choose Arsenal though if he is planning a move from the Bernabeu.
